ABOUT

SEGEDI INC.

Keeping it oldschool since 1987..

Hi! My name is Mikael Segedi..

I create, publish, and market my own games, blending classic 90s retro vibes with modern design, perfectly tailored for today’s gaming culture.

Every game is crafted in Game Maker 2, staying true to the old-school spirit while embracing new-age innovation.

My specialty lies in role-playing games (RPGs). I grew up immersed in the world of pen-and-paper adventures and classic RPGs on retro consoles and early computers. My passion drives me to create games that capture the depth, challenge, and charm of the genre’s golden age.

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

I draw a lot of my inspiration from Japanese game design philosophy, especially the timeless creativity of Nintendo classics. I blend that with the depth, complexity, and player freedom found in old-school computer RPGs, creating games that honor both styles while bringing something fresh to modern players.

CULTURE & ART

Beyond game mechanics, I have a deep fascination with history, spirituality, world cultures, art, music and movies, and I channel that passion into the games I create. These influences help me add real soul and depth to my work. I believe the best way to breathe life into a game is by giving careful attention to the small details in every moment – it’s those subtle touches that truly enrich the player’s experience and make a world feel alive.

MASTERING THE CLASSICS

Much like how Quentin Tarantino draws from classic films to create something uniquely his own, I take inspiration from the legacy of classic games to craft new experiences that feel both nostalgic and fresh.

I spend time studying old games and the processes behind how they were made – from design choices to technical limitations – to understand what made them timeless. This deep dive allows me to reimagine and recreate those experiences in new forms, while staying true to their spirit. To me, games are a powerful art form – a unique blend of storytelling, interactivity, and design that can evoke emotion, spark imagination, and leave a lasting impact.

SOME OF MY FAVORITE RPG GAMES

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time – My all-time favorite game, renowned for its exceptional world-building, unforgettable characters, clever puzzles, and a story brimming with heart and soul. This game title is very close to my heart.

Fallout & Wasteland (classic series) – Beautifully crafted post-apocalyptic open worlds, featuring immersive design and a unique soul that helped define the genre.

Diablo 1 & Diablo 2 – I’m drawn to the dark, immersive atmosphere and the creative freedom to build unique characters. The fast-paced action, deeply randomized levels and loot, and the high-stakes intensity of hardcore mode, where one wrong move can kill your character foreve; it makes every moment feel meaningful. And with its multiplayer feature, brings players together in a way that few games ever have.

Pokemon Red & Blue – Beloved for their sense of adventure, strategic gameplay, and iconic soulful creature designs that perfectly blend charm and coolness, Pokémon Red and Blue deliver a timeless experience. With a strong focus on exploration, team building, battles and other memorable events, these classics laid the groundwork for one of the most successful RPG franchises in gaming history.

The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall – Stands out as one of Bethesda’s most inspiring titles. Featuring a massive world built with procedural generation, it’s so vast it would take two real-time weeks to traverse on foot. It showcases the powerful potential of organic, system-driven game design. Its rich, classic 90s fantasy setting, deeply influenced by 80s and 90s fantasy media, adds to its timeless appeal and continues to inspire the creation of immersive, dynamically generated worlds.

Final Fantasy (series) – Among the many titles in the legendary Final Fantasy franchise, my personal favorites include Final Fantasy I, VII, VIII, and IX. But above all, Final Fantasy XI Online stands out as my top choice. As the first MMORPG in the series, it blends the foundational design philosophy of the original game with a persistent online world. Known for its vast scale and uncompromising difficulty, FFXI is often compared to Dark Souls for its demanding progression system. Every achievement in the game requires true dedication, making success deeply rewarding and memorable.
